Hero! What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear this word? When someone says hero I imagine Batman with his black cape gloating around city skyline and fighting crime. My younger sister, on the other hand, answers Leonardo DiCaprio to this question. And you have guessed it right, that’s not because of his amazing Environmental Change campaign, but rather his good looks. But let’s get back to Batman, because Batman!
It is not hard to imagine the cape crusader running around fighting crime with his crew. No one forgets that, because it is charismatic, it leaves an impact, it inspires us to be a hero. So who really is a Hero? Is it someone only in a cape or would you agree with Batman when he says *Deep Raspy Batman Voice* “A hero can be anyone even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulder to let him know that the world had not ended.”
What do you call a man who is an honest cop, or a lady making sustainable houses out of recyclable waste? I don’t know about you, but for me they are heroes, the Unsung Heroes of our society. The courage of someone ordinary to envision and execute something extraordinary by sheer willpower and commitment. This has inspired me to find the unsung heroes of our societies who are doing good with no greed of being popular or famous.
Another anecdote to add could be a Thai life insurance commercial which, a few years ago, won the world’s best TV commercial award. This is a commercial in which a man was doing everyday tasks of goodness from helping a lady pass the street to dreaming to see a beggar’s daughter go to school, from feeding a hungry dog to putting a plant under some dropping water. These are ordinary actions which inspire an extraordinary positivity, for me these are actions of a hero.
Hence, my team and I are on a mission to find these hidden gems in our society. We aspire to recognise and highlight their work to inspire masses bring a positive change.
